Building a Foundation of Friendship
Is your relationship stuck in a pattern that is painful and confusing and leaves you questioning the value of being together? It’s likely you have a lot of love for each other but could use some help navigating the pain and confusion getting in the way of your connection. I use Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO)--which is the Internal Family Systems (IFS) method for couples and family therapy. Intimacy From the Inside Out is a psychotherapy method using a systemic approach to heal, improve, and provide relationship help. In IFIO I work with the dynamic that happens between each member of the couple while, at times, working with each member of the couple individually. The individual work, in the context of couples therapy, serves to help address and resolve each person's internal barriers to feeling safe and open to heartfelt communication and connection with their partner.
I also utilize Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work with couples which brings in more information and practical/tools based solutions to couple's conflicts. Additionally, I use Somatic Therapy to help each member of the couple understand what is happening in their nervous system when they are in conflict, and I teach techniques for how to regulate their nervous systems so there is more capacity to remain calm and open to hearing and understanding one another. And lastly, when I think it would be useful, I bring in techniques and exercises from Drama Therapy as well.​​
