Self Care Practices for Healing
SELF CARE PRACTICES FOR ONGOING HEALING
General Self-Care Practices
Consistent self-care is a vital part of the ongoing healing process. Engaging in activities that nourish your body, calm your mind, and satisfy your soul can enhance your overall well-being and support the healing process. These practices serve as daily reminders that you are worthy of care and healing.

Daily practices to support healing can include a wide variety of practices including: journaling, prayer, mindful breathing, yoga, meditation, exercise, eating a healthy balanced diet, gardening, getting out into nature, talking to a supportive friend, dancing, sports, playing games, engaging in a creative process, etc. Incorporating EFT tapping can also help maintain an optimal state of emotional well-being and support sustained healing from trauma and stress.

As you journey towards healing, working on developing a positive and loving attitude towards yourself is incredibly important. Cultivating self-compassion is critical. It’s crucial to remember that healing is not a linear process, and it’s okay to have difficult days. In these moments, approach yourself with kindness and remember that every step, no matter how small, is progress.
Mindfulness and Relaxation Practices
When I introduce mindfulness to my clients, some are concerned that meditation or mindfulness necessitates adopting a particular religion or spiritual path or belief. This is not the case. Mindfulness, at it's simplest, means intentionally paying attention to what is moment by moment. Another way of saying this is engaging in moment by moment observation of your internal experience with curiosity and without judgment. The practice of meditation is just one of the many ways to cultivate a mindful relationship with your experience and an attitude of friendliness towards yourself.

Practicing mindfulness in meditation or intentional relaxation promotes:

-
Lowered anxiety levels
-
Improved emotional regulation
-
Experience of being calm and internally still
-
Experience of feeling connected
-
Improved sleep
-
Higher brain functioning
-
Increased immune function
-
Lowered blood pressure
-
Lowered heart rate
-
Increased awareness
-
Increased attention and focus
-
Increased clarity in thinking and perception
Additionally, practicing mindfulness helps you strengthen the observing self--the part of you that can pause long enough to reflect and respond intentionally rather than reacting in an unconscious or unintentional way. This ability can make a huge difference in people's lives because it gives them more choice in their actions and behaviors.
